The Princess of Wales's Traditional Christmas Musical Celebration Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her customary Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will hear a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Among the guests will be a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the well-being of people," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her first public speech for two years, in which she discussed recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will be entertained by talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, set up with the help of the former royal to widen access to instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Pembrokeshire, has been assisted by the trust, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "incredible" to be performing at the concert.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a prize for youthful altruism, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be recording artist Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
